Pandora Radio
Pandora was where I started my online music journey. When I first opened up the app, it was blank. It just said, "Enter the name of an artist or song". So I entered Van Halen and Van Halen Radio started playing. "Cool!" I said. Before the song was even done, I was back out in the menu searching for more of my faves, creating dozens of artist-centric radio stations. Pretty soon, I had a good list built up. This is where Pandora gets very interesting, especially for people like me who enjoy a wide range of music. Just tap the QuickMix button, then edit it to include or exclude any of the radio stations from your list. You can mix together Iron Maiden with Vivaldi, if you are so inclined, or try picking Parliament, Earth, Wind, and Fire, and Southern Culture on the Skids for a great funk channel. The options are virtually endless!

Slacker Radio
Slacker Radio is pretty much the same app as Pandora, only with a slicker look. Slacker also includes sixteen categories of stations, each with multiple sub-genre stations. One of these categories is Comedy, which gives you hours and hours of stand up comedy. Awesome!

iHeart Radio
iHeart Radio is for the more adventurous type. Pandora and Slacker play the music you have told it to play, all the while offering suggestions for you. iHeart Radio is different. iHeart Radio gives you a list of cities and a list of radio formats. You can dial in the combination you want, and if there is a match, off you go to listen to R&B hits from Cincinnati, or classic rock from Phoenix. If you are feeling really brave, you can use the Shake It feature to shake yourself up a random city and format.

With an iPhone and a good 3g connection, it might be hard to understand why someone would even need to put a single music file on their phone.
